There are some moments in ministry you just never forget.
Watching someone hear the Gospel, place their faith in Christ, step into the waters of baptism, and publicly declare that faith—that is a big deal.
Those are the moments we celebrate. They are the pictures we share and the stories people remember. And honestly, they should be celebrated.
But here is something I have learned over the years:
Missions is more than a moment.
What Happens After the Picture?
A baptism may only take a few minutes.
Discipleship takes a whole lot longer.
The real work of missions usually happens in the days, weeks, months, and sometimes years after the big moment.
It happens sitting around a table with an open Bible.
It happens over coffee.
It happens in conversations after church.
It happens when someone has questions.
It happens when life gets messy.
It happens when a young believer is trying to figure out what following Jesus actually looks like on Monday morning.
It is encouraging people, teaching them, walking with them, correcting them when needed, cheering them on, and sometimes just showing up again and again.
The moment may be what people see. The relationship is where so much of the ministry happens.
Some of the Best Parts Never Make the Picture
Over the years serving in Romania, we have had some incredible moments.
We have watched people come to Christ. We have seen baptisms. We have watched young people grow. We have sat in Bible studies, worked with pastors, served churches, reached children, and built relationships with families and communities.
But some of the things that mean the most to us would probably never make a great Facebook picture.
Sometimes it is a conversation nobody else hears.
Sometimes it is a young person asking a question they would have never asked a year ago.
Sometimes it is seeing someone you have invested in begin investing in somebody else.
Sometimes it is watching a pastor get encouraged and keep going.
Sometimes it is realizing that a relationship you have been building for years has finally opened a door for the Gospel.
That kind of ministry is not always flashy.
But it matters.
Missions is not just about going somewhere. It is about investing in people.
And investing in people takes time.
We Are Still on Mission
Our life and ministry are changing in some ways, but the mission is not.
We still want to share the Gospel. We still want to make disciples. We still want to train leaders.
We still want to reach the next generation. We still want to strengthen churches. And we still want to go beyond borders wherever God opens the door.
Because for us, missions has never been about collecting moments. It is about people, relationships, faithfully showing up, and doing the work long after the picture has been taken.
The baptisms matter. The mission trips matter. The special events matter.
But what happens before them matters. And what happens after them matters too.
Missions is more than a moment.
And we are still on mission.
